Book Description: This report by the National Audit Office examines the sale process for the Millennium Dome, under the management of English Partnerships (the national regeneration agency), which aimed to find a sustainable long term use for the structure. The report focuses on three key aspects: the reasons for the failure of the initial competition, launched in March 1999, to find an acceptable buyer, and the lessons learned by the Government; the management of the second sale process, launched in March 2001, and the subsequent choice of Meridian Delta Ltd as the selected partner; and whether the deal secured is likely to deliver the Government's regeneration objectives for the Greenwich Peninsula area and achieve good value for money. Overall, the report concludes that the second sale process avoided many of the problems of the earlier abortive sale competition, and has a produced a deal likely to achieve the Government's objectives as the Peninsula is developed over the next two decades.
