Lauren Brooke Books Overview

Coming Home

He hit more home runs than Mark McGwire, Babe Ruth, or Hank Aaron. He was the best in the game, yet he was never allowed to play in the Major Leagues. And he died just four months before Jackie Robinson broke baseball’s color barrier. His name was Josh Gibson, and Coming Home is his incredible story. This beautifully illustrated tribute to baseball’s greatest home run hitter is the first picture book every published about Josh Gibson.

After the Storm

Amy attempts to treat Spartan, the horse involved in the accident that killed Amy’s mother. But Amy soon learns Spartan is not the only who has wounds yet to heal. Although Amy is helping out with the horses at Heartland again, she is still weighted by a sense of guilt for her mother’s death. And she misses her mum too much to dismiss her fear that she was responsible for the trailer crash. Furthermore, Amy’s trying to care for Spartan, the horse they saved before the accident, but Spartan is an everyday reminder of the wreck and how it changed everything. And for Spartan, Amy is a reminder of the crash as well no matter what attempts she makes , Spartan is vicious towards her. At the very sight of her he lashes out, rearing defiantly and baring his teeth. Faulting herself, Amy feels she can’t blame Spartan for hating her. Then she realises Spartan will never forgive her until she forgives herself.

Breaking Free

She’s trying to do just what her mother would have done, but everything is beginning to unravel. It will take all Amy’s courage to let go of her mother’s legacy, but it is the only way she will break free.

Come What May

When Amy finds out her sister, Lou, is trying to get in touch with their estranged father, she doesn t know what to do. She isn t willing to let her father into her life again. Forcing herself to forget about it, Amy focuses her attention on the new horse, Melody. But when complications develop with Melody’s unborn foal, it takes nothing short of a miracle to help Amy realize that life is not about the pain you ve felt in the past, but the hope you hold for the future.

Out of the Darkness

Amy is enlisted to help Prince, a former champion racehorse, recover from devastating burns caused by a stable fire. While Prince’s physical wounds are obvious, his emotional state is more scarred and even harder to treat. When Amy learns that Prince s groom was also injured in the fire, she believes he might be the key to the horse s recovery.

Thicker Than Water

Heartland is a horse farm nestled in the hills of Virginia, but it’s much more than that. Heartland is a place like no other a place where the scars of the past can be healed, a place where frightened and abused horses learn to trust again. It’s been a long time since Amy has seen her father. Now she’s waiting for someone who seems like a stranger to arrive and shatter the peace of Heartland. After twelve years apart, how can he be her father now? Will he understand who she is, and what matters in her world? Amy’s life is Heartland and its work but then horses are her father’s life, too. With all that’s come between them, can their love of horses bring them together again.

Every New Day

Amy is only 15, but she inherited countless responsibilities when her mother died. Most of all, she is expected to fill her mother’s role as the horse healer at Heartland. Amy is talented, but still a novice. She can’t admit she needs time to grow and understand. When she can’t cure Mercury, and she and Ty argue about his treatment, she decides to visit a Native American horseman who knew her mother. Amy takes Mercury to the mountain top stable searching for answers, but she ultimately learns that she can’t always chase down solutions. Sometimes she has to wait for them to find her.

Tomorrow’s Promise

When Amy meets Daniel, she is stunned by his defensive nature. She can’t figure out how someone with so much love for his horse could be so cold to everyone else. But as Amy gets to know Daniel, she begins to understand him. She respects that he won’t give in to the pageantry of the elite show circuit and that he doesn’t care what others say about his horse. Daniel rides Amber like it’s the two of them against the world. And Amy wants to do everything she can to help them conquer it.

True Enough

When Ashley Grant appears at Heartland unannounced, Amy is immediately suspicious. Ashley has never been friendly she hasn’t even been close to nice. Considering their history, Amy is intrigued when Ashley begs her to help train an expensive jumper purchased by Ashley’s mom. Amy had noticed Ashley and Bright Magic at the last show. The horse exhibited amazing talent despite its obvious agitation with its overbearing tack and Ashley’s aggressive riding. Always thinking of the horse first, Amy promises to help out, and she finds herself entrenched in a family drama richer than her own.

Sooner Or Later

As Amy becomes more committed to showjumping, she has less time to care for the horses at Heartland. Amy must deal with real issues: What will she choose as her priorities? Who does she want to be?Amy’s dreams have come true. She is still caring for damaged horses like her mom, and now she’s showing in high level jumping competitions like her dad. It’s all possible because of Storm, the talented dapple gray thoroughbred that was a gift from her father. But having it all can take a lot out of you, and Amy is realizing that she can’t keep up with her work at Heartland and dedicate herself to the show world. Storm needs more attention, and so do the other horses. Sooner Or Later, she’ll have to make a choice.

Darkest Hour

A fierce flu strain is infecting Heartland’s horses, and, despite Amy and Ty’s fervent efforts to treat and isolate those infected, the flu spreads to other horses and the vet quarantines Heartland. To make matters worse, the late summer heat heightens the tension. Ben is frustrated when Red starts to exhibit flu symptoms because their show season will be cut short. Ty thinks Ben is being selfish, and Amy feels caught in the middle. Then, just as some horses start to get better, a tornado devastates the valley. When the storm is over, everyone is forced to gain a new perspective.

Everything Changes

A new horse has arrived at Heartland. It is a stunning blue roan stallion a Mustang that was purchased at a round up out West. He has a beautiful, independent spirit. Amy understands how to work with strong willed horses. She has always had a sense of how to approach each one. With time, even the most defensive and fierce horses have grown to understand her, to yearn to reach out to her and make the bond. But this horse is different. He isn’t angry or misunderstood. He is proud. When Amy watches him gaze out over the paddock fence, she wonders if he was meant to be wild and free.

Love Is a Gift

When Amy journeys to Australia with her sister Lou to visit their father on his horse ranch, she has difficulty feeling a part of his new family. Lou gets along easily with his wife and three year old daughter, Lily, but Amy can’t look past the fact that she was just three when her father left. So Amy delves into the stablework. But when she reaches a breakthrough with one of the jumpers, the other trainers resent her success. Amy laments that she can’t do anything right away from Heartland. It takes a family crisis for Amy to discover she can claim new roles and make new friends.

Holding Fast

At last, life is back to normal for Amy. She has returned from visiting her dad’s family in Australia, and Ty continues to recuperate after his accident. While things seem to be back in place for Amy, those around her are anticipating change. Lou and Scott are engaged, but Lou is hesitating to set a date. Ben is struggling to devote more time to Red and the show circuit. With so many emotional distractions, Amy dedicates herself to Venture a police horse with a back injury. But Amy really needs to be devoting the same dedication she has for the horses to her family and friends.

A Season of Hope

When Ty’s father, Brad, makes an emergency stop at Heartland with his truck, Amy is horrified to discover what he’s transporting. Inside the trailer are seven dehydrated horses, crammed in the rank, stifling conditions. While the Heartland team works to revive the animals, Amy discovers that Brad who had never supported Ty’s work at Heartland is willing to take a stand against his company management in order to prevent the return of the horses to unfit owners. As the horses slowly recover at Heartland, Amy witnesses another miraculous healing between Ty and his father.

New Beginnings

After Amy hears of the death of her mentor, she is surprised when his granddaughter, Carey, mysteriously invites her to visit. Amy is eager to return to the serene stables, and Ty agrees to go with her. Once they arrive, Amy seeks out Carey and assumes she wants help with her mustang, Maverick. Yet Carey is nowhere to be found, and she seems to be avoiding both her pony and Amy. So Amy immerses herself in barn work. But it isn’t the horses who need her help. When she finally takes time to understand her friend’s issues, she is forced to see her own future in a whole new way.

From This Day On

As Amy’s sister Lou is finalizing her wedding details, Amy is contemplating her own plans for the future. She is a senior, and the scores for the SAT that she had taken to appease her grandfather have arrived and are unexpectedly impressive. Now Amy, who had ever considered her life beyond Heartland, is thinking of college but chooses not to reveal this struggle to her family or Ty. With the distraction of a lost pony that unexpectedly shows up one snowy morning, and the constant arrival of wedding gifts, Amy is able to conceal her secret, but soon life will force her to make a difficult decision.

Always There

Even at graduation, Amy cannot concentrate on her accomplishments. She is distracted by her concern for a sick horse back at Heartland. College is weeks away, but she dreads having to leave her home and her work at the stable the work she took over after her mother’s death. It doesn’t help that Lou, Joni, and Ty her boyfriend are already making decisions without her, anticipating life after she is away at school. When a new horse arrives for treatment, everyone seems wary of telling Amy his story. As she starts to treat him, his fear seems a mystery.

Winter Memories

It’s December, and Amy can’t help but remember the last holiday she spent with her mother. Back then, Amy was training Sundance, the feisty pony they had rescued from an auction. While Sundance had proven to be a talent in the show ring, he was still impossible to handle in the stable. Frustrated by the pony’s attitude and her mother’s rigorous training schedule, Amy is lacking holiday and Heartland spirit. But then, Sundance falls ill. As Amy watches over him, she is finally able to glimpse the vulnerable pony’s true heart and understand the precious gift she shares with her mother.

Making Strides

Upset but determined, Lani sets out to change her parents’ minds. When she sprains her wrist riding, she’s able to devote more time to studying until she gets involved in planning a charity event. If the event is a success, will Lani be able to convince her parents that Chestnut Hill is the place for her?

The Scheme Team

Dylan knows it isn’t always easy being the niece of the new Director of Riding, Ali Carmichael. After the Chestnut Hill girls don’t perform as well as they could have at an All School League Show, Ali treats it as a learning opportunity, but some upperclassmen think the team would have fared better under the old Director, Liz Mitchell. Soon after the show, rumors begin flying that Liz is trying to get her old job back. When a petition to replace Ali with Liz starts to circulate, Dylan and her friends can’t believe it! Can they defend Ali from the conspiracy against her?

All Or Nothing

Malory has a natural gift for riding, so it’s no surprise that she’s invited to try out for an exclusive summer riding team. But there are always hurdles. Malory needs to find a horse to ride, compete against her classmates for a spot, and deal with the fact that Caleb the boy she’s liked all year is trying out as well. It doesn’t help that things with Caleb have been tricky as of late, and that joining the team would mean leaving her father and Tybalt for the summer. Malory has always been methodical and reasonable, but even she struggles to make the decision that is right.
