Book Description:
This research monograph will be useful to managers in multinational enterprises, accounting and management academics, and research students interested in stakeholder management from an organisational and cross cultural perspective. Recent decades have seen a shift in emphasis from a 'shareholder' to a contemporary 'stakeholder' perspective regarding organisational theory. Instead of placing strategic focus solely on the claims of 'shareholders', organisations now engage in dialogue with various 'stakeholders' who have either explicit and/or implicit contractual claims on the firm. This monograph will help enable managers in multinational enterprises formulate organisational strategy toward stakeholders through identification of 'who' and 'what' are stakeholders and the various typologies developed to categorise stakeholder relationships with the firm.An extensive coverage of the theoretical developments which underly the stakeholder concept will be of benefit to managers who are faced with constructing organisational strategy but who may not have reference to, or be familiar with, the various conceptual elements and frameworks which underly the field. The monograph is also useful for individual or group stakeholders themselves in identifying how organisations perceive their salience. This many be beneficial strategically when engaging in firm dialogue or negotiating stakeholder claims which aim to maximise leverage over organisational strategy. Accounting and managerial academic and students will also find this monograph beneficial in exploring contemporary aspects of firm theories, and will provide further insight into the literature in the field through refinement of conceptual principles and frameworks which have been developed to date, but which may lack empirical data. This research provides specific insight into the Asia Pacific region, by presenting empirical evidence of managerial attitudes from Australia, China and Indonesia. Specific focus is placed on a typology identifying managerial perceptions regarding the legitimacy, power and urgency of the claims of selected stakeholders. This will enable an insight into managerial attitudes from a dynamic and diverse region of the world, which is currently experiencing rapid economic growth, driven in most part by multinational business. In summary this monograph has clear applications and implications for managers in multi national enterprises, accounting and managerial academics and research students.
