South of towns of Hinton and Edson, the foothills and front ranges of Alberta's eastern slopes are known as the Coal Branch. Within its borders lie Cadomin Cave, Whitehorse Wildland Park and Carinal Pass separating the headwaters of the Athabasca and North Saskatchewan rivers. Hikes and mountain bike trips are centred around the mining communities of Robb and Cadomin and range n duration from a few hous of mine site exploration to 2 or 3 day forays into Jasper National Park. A number of trips venture above treeline into the grassy summits for which the area is well known. As in their previous books, the authors provide informative sidebars about the mining history of the Coal Branch.
