Book Description:
This is a bilingual anthology encompassing work by three generations of poets. It is intended to introduce readers to both experimental and more traditional currents of Italian poetry during the second half of this century. The first generation (poets born before 1935) includes such names as Nobel Prize Winner Eugenio Montale and Pier Paolo Pasolini, together with avant garde poets like Andrea Zanzotto and Edoardo Sanguineti. The poetry of the second generation (born between 1935 and 1945) reveals a clear need to come to terms with the radical experimentation of the past; included are the late Antonio Porta and Nanni Cagnone. The section dedicated to the youngest generation (those born after 1945) features poets ranging from Valerio Magrelli to the leader of the neo neo avant garde, Lello Voce. It also includes selections of prose poetry representative of the recent exploration of directions pioneered by Dino Campana.
