On April 15, 1920, two innocent men were murdered during a bungled armed robbery in a Boston suburb. Crimes of this sort were not uncommon at that time but this one became one of the most celebrated court cases of the century. The two men charged, convicted, and executed for the murders were Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, both Italian immigrants and confessed militant anarchists. For the past eight decades, much of America has remained divided over the question of whether they were executed for the crime of murder or the crime of their radical politics and immigrant status.
