Book Description: Over the past two decades, organization studies has become increasingly pluralistic, even anarchistic, in its themes and range of intellectual standpoints. This differentiation and fragmentation has led to a series of highly charged debates across the intellectual divides'. Rethinking Organization assesses these debates and their consequences for the current position and future development of organization studies. The first part of the book reviews and evaluates the most significant theoretical developments, focusing in particular on the various ways in which organization' has been conceptualized as the basis for organizational analyses.The central section examines the nature and significance of the major organizational transformations currently occurring throughout advanced industrial societies. Themes include the cultural embeddeness of organizational forms and business recipes', the different philosophies of time underpinning competing analyses of organizational evolution, and the importance of understanding the continuities which mediate assumptions about a new post Fordist' world.The final chapters outline a variety of emergent perspectives on organization and organization theory.
