Book Description: Despite clinical evidence that demonstrates a clear distinction between the two, atrial flutter is often categorized as being similar to atrial fibrillation. Although each arrhythmia has a decidedly different etiology and requires a different specific therapy, the fact that a comparatively smaller number of patients are diagnosed with flutter has, in the past, made it more convenient to group the two arrhythmias together. Now, however, considerable research has shed light on atrial flutter as an arrhythmia in its own right. While it can still be difficult to clinically differentiate from atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter's most common mechanisms have been understood, and the most effective therapy (ablation to achieve cure) has been identified.
