In 1978 the Leeds Art Collections Fund, in partnership with the National Art Collections Fund, published as a joint venture, Christopher Gilbert s majestic two volume catalogue of the celebrated furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall, Leeds. Since then, the collection has been further greatly enriched with masterpieces and interesting lesser examples of mainly English furniture. Mr Gilbert has now completed a third volume recording some 240 acquisitions and containing updated information about many items featured in earlier work. Each carefully researched entry is supported by at least one, and on occasion up to 14 generous sized photographs. Particular attention has been devoted to establishing the provenance and identifying the maker or designer of furniture. A final section briefly records significant fresh information that has emerged about objects catalogued in the earlier volumes. This high quality, lavishly illustrated publication matches the exact scholarship and the handsome format of volumes I & II.
