Book Description: A curious child compares garden creatures to what he knows of space invaders. What are they!? Alien invaders? Antennas? Shiny armor and helmets? Are these small creatures Earth dwellers or something out of this world ? TV movies give the child the impression that aliens look just like what he sees in his own garden. In the garden, helmeted bugs live among the giant onions. Ant colonies scurry in an underworld of stolen treasure that include a diamond ring, sugar cubes, jacks and various other human loot. Swarms of bugs seem to glow in the moonlight and insects carrying off pickles, cheese and other goodies invade a picnic. The child invents ways to make friends with them (just in case they are aliens!) such as putting on a show featuring what might be their favorite flowers and sharing his popcorn at TV time. Creepy crawlers in wacky colored pencil illustrations cast an iridescent glow in this lively tale. Bugs and creepy crawlers abound in far out illustrations. Kids will love knowing what the little boy doesn t know and enjoy the insect antics along the way. Drawn on animation paper (used for wide angle panning shots) acquired after the 1994 California earthquake, many of the soft tones are achieved through the use of Prismacolor pencils in shades of Indigo blue to obtain a broad range of hues and tones.
