Book Description:
LAURIES HOUSEHOLD ENCYCLOPBDIA A Book of Household Reference, comprising COOKERY and HOUSEHOLD recipes, useful MEDICAL and GARDENING information, a simple guide to ETIQUETTE, hints for the TOILET, delineations of CHARACTER and PERSONALITY as well as many other recipes and much useful information of a general nature the whole alphabetically arranged and simply and clearly explained 1931 PREFACE THIS Encyclop dia is intended as a handy book of reference for the average household, and its present sale of over 200,000 copies shows that it has been found , of inestimable value to housewives. The compilers, while endeavouring to include all that necessary and useful information which the housewife will require, have yet been limited to the scope of a single volume, so that the reader must bear in mind that only such information has been included as is likely to be required in the management of the average household. Each subject, however, has been dealt with in a manner that will enable the reader to turn to the worb for effective assistance in any ordinary domestic activity or where difficulty or emergency arises. The alphabetical arrangement of the subject matter will be found particularly simple and attractive, eliminating as it does the necessity for a separate indei or the classification of the subjects dealt with under separate sections. The necessity for yet another reprint of the HOUSEHOLD ENCYCLOPBDIAaf forded an opportunity of making an entirely . new edition. It has, accordingly, been reset and revised throughout, and has been so substantially enlarged that it now has about 1500 entries, calculated to be of constant guidance in every aspect of domestic activity. The whole has been brought into line with the latest usage and information, including a wealth of up to date items of popular inquiry, while the many hints and recipes which for long have been accepted, have not been ignored.
