When rat estate agent Sam, arrives at the riverside home of field mice Mandy and Joseph, and brazenly tells them that their home is being sold for a luxury development of bungalows by Reginald the Fox, it is just the start of the adventure... Joseph has to find the freedom document in order to prove their ownership. So why does he then give it to Sam, of all creatures? Then promptly disappear? Mandy makes the long and dangerous trip to Henley to enlist the help of the animal militia, but then appears to ally herself with the rats. To add to the confusion the animal militia befriend one of the rats, who tries to lead them into an ambush, which turns out to be just about the most confusing event of them all. This is a charming adventure story with lots of humour on several levels, that adults will enjoy reading aloud as much as children will enjoy listening to it.
