Book Description: This study analyzes the popular notion that the attitudes of the IRA, backed by Sinn Fein and Gerry Adams, mirror those of the Protestant paramilitary and the Paisleyite groups in Northern Ireland. Using their periodicals and pamphlets, it demonstrates that these violently antagonistic groups not only borrow each other's tactics directly, but also unconsciously converge in their attitudes to violence, education, economic strategies and sometimes Irish language and culture. This analysis argues that even their different interpretations of people and events demonstrate a common pattern of stylized antagonism. While Provisionals condemn Catholic bishops as agents of the British goverment, Protestant loyalists see these bishops as IRA organizers. The author concludes that a continuing stalemate is likely.
