Blackbeard, known as North Carolina's own pirate, roamed the seas from the Carolina's to Maine, pillaging and robbing any vessel which dared to cross his path. In June of 1718, he deliberately his flagship aground off the Beaufort Inlet. In November of 1996, Mike Daniel of Intersal, a private research company, located a wreckage believed to be Blackbeard's flagship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, two miles off Beaufort, North Carolina. State archeologists have retrieved and conserved a wide assortment of artifacts from the ship, with many more yet to be recovered.
